Training Overview Description

Nurses spend more time with patients and families facing the end of life than any other health professional. Nurses are intimately involved in all aspects of end-of-life/palliative care and they address the myriad of needs facing individuals at this time of life. Nursing students have limited exposure and education on end of life care. Nursing faculty require the tools to thread concepts of palliative and end of life care thru their curriculum.

The ELNEC Core curriculum contains eight modules addressing critical aspects of end-of-life care plus leadership and self-care. This session will provide a foundation for incorporating these modules and other teaching/educational techniques into the undergraduate curriculum.

Objective:
Faculty will gain knowledge of ELNEC material and the proper application into curriculum to train student nurses in communication, pain and symptom management related to end-of-life care.
